Football Champions

On Monday afternoon, we sent two teams to a football competition at Ruskin Drive and we won! Both Team A and Team B did not lose a single match and only conceded 1 goal in total!

Team B fought hard in their group and were very unfortunate not to make it through to the knock-out stages of the competition. Special mentions go to the defensive unit of goalkeeper Ellis and his well-organised backline of Ben, Tilly and Charlie C.

After getting through the group stages, Team A went on to the Quarter-Final where a closely-fought contest ended in a dramatic penalty shootout. Cooper, Rio and Timi stepped up to score whilst Noah saved a penalty to send us through to the semis.

In the semis, another close 0-0 ended in another penalty shootout. This time it went to sudden death but the team shown great composure and Noah made another fantastic save to send us through to the final.

The final was another nervy encounter but Timi struck two missile-like shots  to secure the trophy and make Eccleston Mere champions.

Everyone from both teams played a huge part in securing victory today. The dedication shown by the children to attend lunchtime practises and the willingness to work for and support each other makes the victory even sweeter.

A final thanks goes to all those that came to support the teams. In what was quite a chilly afternoon, every cheer and "Come on Eccy Mere!" drove the teams on to do their best.
