Eco Council
Eco-School is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heard of school life. We have achieved the Bronze Eco-School Award. These awards are given to recognise our achievement in working towards a sustainable lifestyle.
What is the Eco Council?
The Eco Council is a group of pupils who meet each month to discuss eco friendly and environmental issues within school which prepares children to live their future lives with consideration for global issues. Eccleston Mere Primary School has an Eco Committee made up of children from Year 1 to Year 6.
Why do we have an Eco Council?
To ensure our school is eco-friendly and prepares pupils to live with reflection of the environment.
To make sure each class has a platform to voice their opinions.
To discuss and raise issues related to the environment.
How are Eco councillors elected?
At the start of each academic year, children who are interested in being on the eco councillor fill in an application form and prepare a speech to their class outlining why they would be a good school councillor. Classes select the best candidate through a voting process.
What happens is Eco council meetings?
We begin each year by completing an environmental review to find out our schools successes and areas for improvement. We use this to create an action plan for the upcoming year. Throughout the year each Eco Councillor meets with their class to discuss ideas about changes and improvements to the school. The issues are then raised in meetings and Eco Councillors discuss how to move forward with these ideas.
