We follow the National Curriculum 2014. You can access information about the curriculum for Year 2 in the documents below. If you require any further information about the curriculum you can access the Department for Education website or contact school.
The childen learn the following: numbers to 100; addition and subraction to 100; multiplication and division; 2D and 3D shapes; measuring length, weight and capacity; money to £2 and telling the time.
The childen learn the following: writing for a variety of purposes and audiences; looking at features of different text types; spelling patterns; cursive handwriting; Read Write Inc / Literacy and Language.
Reading - We follow the Oxford Reading Tree reading scheme. It is recognised that children who read regularly at home make the most progress in reading. Therefore we would encourage all children to read at home each evening from a variety of books and sources, and would ask that the reading record books are completed.
Phonics - If children have not passed the Phonics Screening in Year 1, they will access Read, Write Inc in Year 2. This is a phonics scheme that is used throughout the infant department and is delivered most mornings.
Year 2 SATs
Daily observations form the basis of teacher assessment, is used, in part, to inform the end of Key Stage results. Children will undertake end of Key Stage 1 tests in reading, writing, spelling and Mathematics. At the end of the year, children will be ascribed a level of progress in reading, writing, Mathematics and Science. The national level of attainment is EXS (Expected Standard). Your child may be ascribed one of the following results;
- WTS - Working Toward Standard (Below)
- EXS - Expected Standard (Expected)
- GDS - Greater Depth (Above)
